OUR STORY
CSPRO is my way of giving back to the community that shaped me. With the right guidance and opportunities, I believe that the next generation of football talent from Zimbabwe’s ghettos can go even further than I have. Your support will enable me to continue assisting youths from disadvantaged backgrounds. Together we can empower them and provide the opportunities they need to build a brighter future.
CSPRO Academy is a football and educational initiative rooted in the heart of Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, dedicated to empowering ghetto youth through sport and education. Founded by former professional footballer Costa Nhamoinesu, the academy is a reflection of his story below:

CHILDHOOD
I began my journey as herdboy in the countryside, far from any contact with the world of football, yet driven by a dream that seemed impossible. I moved to the dusty streets of Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, a place where opportunities are few and survival is the priority. In the ghettos, like mine, the dreams of becoming a professional footballer often feel impossible. Many talented young players around me faced the same harsh realities—lack of resources, facilities, and support.
Growing up in such an environment is tough, and many of us had to focus on daily survival instead of chasing our dreams. Football was always around for fun, but to think of it as profession, thats when it gets tricky, its not easy.
After fighting my way to the highest level of Zimbabwean football, I had the opportunity to play professionally in Europe. Starting in the lower leagues of Poland, I eventually made my way to Zagłębie Lubin and later, AC Sparta Prague (ACS) in the Czech Republic. Those years in Europe were life-changing, but they also highlighted the challenges many talented players from the ghetto face. I had to work through unfamiliar environments, language barriers, and the lack of proper guidance on transitioning to the professional stage.
But what kept me going was the resilience I learned growing up in the ghetto and the countryside. For example, in the winter the gas station was my savior because I would collect plastic gloves there to put inside my training gloves in order to feel warm. Similarly I would wear plastics in my feet before the stockings to keep my feet warm so I could maintain my feeling of the ball.
That toughness and determination helped me reach the top level, including becoming the Zimbabwean player with the most appearances in UEFA club competitions [Read more].
EDUCATION: POWER OF LEARNING
Alongside football, I’ve always valued education. In 2020, while still actively playing football, I embarked on a new journey, higher education. My first step was studying with the Johan Cruyff Institute, and later, after retiring from professional football, I pursued and earned my Master’s in Football Business at University of East London in 2023.
Continuing my education while playing professionally wasn’t easy, but it was essential for my growth both on and off the pitch. Through this journey, I’ve seen the importance of education not just during, but after a football career. It’s never too late to learn, and I aim to instill that mindset in the youth at CSPRO Academy.
This drive for education stemmed from a belief in lifelong learning, a value I couldn’t pursue earlier due to financial limitations back home. Yet, over 15 years later, I was able to achieve this dream. Football took me across three continents, exposing me to different cultures and lifestyles, teaching me invaluable lessons both on and off the pitch.

RACISM: FACING THE HARSH REALITY
When I moved to Poland, I encountered something entirely new, racial discrimination. Growing up in Zimbabwe, race was never an issue; I hadn’t learned about it or its potential to divide. Suddenly, I was seen in a different light, and the hostility hit me hard. Fans taunted me during games, I was spat on in public, and my skin color became a barrier.
I remember a man walking up to me, carrying a child on his shoulders, spat directly to my face! All I could was look at him in disbelief as he walked away. My thoughts of retaliation were nuetralized by the child he was carrying. Yet, rather than shrinking back, I used these experiences to fuel my performance.
Despite the challenges, I became one of the best in my position in Poland, and this earned me a move to AC Sparta Praha. Though the racism continued—monkey chants, cold interactions with some fans—I thrived. I went on to win domestic cups, play in UEFA Europa League quarterfinals, and even captain the team, proving that I could rise above hate.
WHY CSPRO ?
My life’s journey inspired me to give back. I founded Costa Sports Pro (CSPRO) Academy, right in the heart of the ghetto where I grew up. I know firsthand that there are talented youths in the ghettos, but they need guidance and access to opportunities.
CSPRO Academy is my way of ensuring that these young footballers don’t face the same barriers I did. CSPRO is more than just a football academy, it’s a celebration of heritage, survival, and triumph over adversity. It’s a platform for young people to not only develop athletically but also to grow into better human beings, equipped to face life’s challenges head-on.

WHERE ARE WE NOW ?
We are officially registered with Zimbabwe Football Association and FIFA, we are part of the Chitungwiza Junior Development League. So far, we’ve welcomed over 80 youths (U11–U17) to our academy, all free of charge. Due to the difficult financial situations in the ghetto, many families simply can’t afford to pay for such services.
From the start, I’ve been personally funding CSPRO, providing some scholarships to other youngsters. the day-to-day operations of the academy are still largely funded from my own pocket. The academy’s costs continue to grow as we strive to expand our reach and provide more services to the youth. It has become difficult to continue paying for education, food, accommodation and mental health support as we continue to grow.
Your support will enable me to continue assisting youths from disadvantaged backgrounds. Together we can empower them and provide the opportunities they need to build a brighter future.
