CSPRO and three other Harare-based academies were invited for a tour in Harare. The youngsters visited the Mbuya Nehanda statue, Zimbabwe National Museum and the National Heroes Acre. This tour was of significant impact on teaching the boys our history and heritage from the pre and post-colonial era as well as its relevance to present and future generations.
It did not end with the tour alone as more activities were in store for the ghetto youths. A U18 soccer tournament was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry which was graced by the Honourable Deputy Minister Mrs Barbra Rwodzi. Four academies participated which are owned by former Zimbabwe International Footballers; Costa Nhamoinesu, Dickson Choto, Mike Temwanjira and Ephraim Mazarure. The teams played in a do-or-die encounter with DC Academy winning by 2 goals to 1 against JMRI Academy. While CSPRO won a rather tough 1 nil victory against MM academy to book a place in the final against DC Academy. As a way to teach the youngsters how it is done a curtain raiser match between the Legends and Tourism Zimbabwe team was played. The match featured yesteryear legends such as Dickson Choto, Ephraim Mazarura, Mike Temwanjira, Edward Sadomba, Musset Zengeni, Frosty Dzangara and many others. The legends game showcased some mouth-watering football and it ended 1 all in the normal time only for the legends to win 4-2 after shootouts.
The final carried up the momentum set up by the curtain raiser match as it went to the break goalless with both team fighting and creating numerous chances. It was a battle of the goalkeepers as they had some beautiful saves to keep the two teams at bay. DC academy finally broke the deadlock with 10 minutes left on the clock and had to hold on to that goal to clinch the inaugural world tourism Zimbabwe soccer title.
As an academy we would like to thank the guest of Honour, Honourable Deputy Minister Mrs Barbra Rwodzi, Master of Ceremony Mr Charles “CNN” Mabika, Former Zimbabwe International Footballers, Coaches, Patrons, Parents and Fans who graced this beautiful occasion and supported the youngsters. It proved to be two memorable days for the ghetto youths both on and off the field of play. They managed to learn a lot historically and were motivated and inspired as they rubbed shoulders with their legends
